QuizQuilt Documentation
QuizQuilt is a trivia game with a twist. Each puzzle consists of a set of genus trivia questions whose answers provide the solution to a cryptic quilt clue. If you're stuck, hints are available. Or just check out the quilt solution and read the bonus explanations and factoids with each answer.
QuizQuilt runs on almost every PDA or cell phone using PalmOS.

Table of Contents
Each QuizQuilt puzzle consists of a set of trivia questions and a quilt clue for you to solve.
QuizQuilt has two main screens that you will work on. The Quilt screen presents all of your current answers in a grid and allows you to select where the quilt answer should run through them. The Question screen presents each category question and gives you a place to enter your answer (you can also enter the answer on the Quilt screen).
When you think you've solved the quilt, or you just want to see the answers, you can go to the Solution screen. You can also check your score at any time on the Scores screen.
Each quilt includes one question from each of the following six genus categories:
- Entertainment & Food - food and drinks, movies, music, and television questions
- History & Government - government, history, and politics questions
- Math & Science - computers, math, and science questions
- Geography & Nature - geography and nature questions
- Literature & Arts - art, books, comics, mythology, poetry, and religion questions
- Sports & Games - games, sports, and toys questions
You can view the categories of the questions on the Quilt & Module Info screen.
Category answers can be entered on either the Quilt screen or the Question screen.
- Each category answer is a single word with no spaces or punctuation marks. Capitalization is ignored (although capital letters are displayed, you can enter lower case letters instead).
- Each category answer begins in the leftmost column and will have between one and ten letters. Leave unused boxes to the right blank.
- If the category answer is a person, the last name is usually required unless the person is commonly known by just a first name (e.g., MADONNA).
- If the category answer is known by both a multi-word name and an acronym, the acronym is desired (e.g., GE for General Electric).
- If the category answer is a sports team, the nickname is required for professional sports and the university or college name for college sports (e.g., METS for the New York Mets and DUKE for the Duke University Blue Devils).
Your currently calculated quilt answer appears at the bottom left of the Quilt screen and at the bottom of the Scores screen. Hyphens indicate missing letters.
- The quilt answer will always be six letters long, spelled out in a straight line through all of the category answers. It is usually one word but may consist of two or three words concatenated with no spaces.
- The possible positions for the quilt answer are: Nth Letters (1st through 9th), Last Letters, Diagonal (starting in the first column), or Reverse Diagonal (ending in the first column). The direction can be Up or Down. See examples on the screenshots throughout this document.

The Quilt screen is the main QuizQuilt screen where you can see all of your answers and contains the following:
- Quilt Question: The cryptic clue that you are trying to solve appears at the top left of the screen. The quilt answer will consist of six letters found in a straight line through the category answers.
- Quilt #: The number of the current quilt appears at the top right of the screen. Tap on the quilt number to go to the Select Quilt screen to choose a different quilt to work on.
- Category Question buttons (1 to 6): Tap to display the trivia question for the selected row. This will take you to the Question screen. On color devices, the color of the button indicates the category type (see Quilt & Module Info in the Help menu for more information).
- Category Answer boxes: Enter your answer to each question to the right of its corresponding question button, starting in the leftmost box (column 1). Each answer will be from 1 to 10 letters, with possible extra spaces on the right. You can move around the boxes using the arrow keys and other hardware buttons (see Preferences), or you can just tap on the box you want to go to.
- Quilt Answer: The currently calculated quilt answer, based on your category answers and the Position and Direction popups, appears at the bottom left of the screen. The letters used in the quilt answer are highlighted with a thick border in the Answer boxes.
- Position popup: The quilt answer can be composed of the 1st Letters of the category answers, the 2nd Letters, the 3rd Letters, an so forth, the Last Letters, or one of the two main diagonals touching a left corner box. Diagonal starts in the first column and goes right, while Reverse Diagonal starts in the sixth column and goes left. Note that there is no 10th Letters choice because Last Letters covers that possibility and is more flexible.
- Direction popup: The quilt answer can go Down or Up through the category answers.
- Prefs button: Allows you to set various Preferences including the question font and lines, sound, and hardware button usage.
- Hint button: Reveals a letter in one or all category answers or shows the quilt position and direction. More details can be found in the description of the Hint menu option.
- Register button: Allows you to enter your QuizQuilt registration code, which gives you access to all available quilts. This button will disappear once you have registered. See the sections below on Pricing and Registering QuizQuilt.
